Africa, America, and Food

I would call myself a big foodie. My best friend and I love going out and trying new restaurants and different foods from different cultures. We've tried almost every different type of food around us but have never decided to look into the history of the food. So, when I was reading about how many things I eat on the regular in "What Africa Has Given America" by Joseph E. Holloways, it immediately caught my attention.

When reading I learned that so many different crops, foods, and cooking techniques came from Africa. This makes me think, what would American food have been without Africa? Other than bland, I wonder how much different the food would be now without things like deep frying, peanuts, yams, peas, and other things. I think that the colonizers were bound to steal and not create their own culture, so if it wasn't Africa they stole from it would have been someone else.
